A new site is not empty — it is furnished with placeholder content so that nothing looks broken while you work. Your first hour is about replacing that placeholder content with yours, in the order that matters.
1. Say who you are
- Open Settings → Site identity and fill in the name of your business, your email address, your phone number and your address.
- Upload your logo if you have one. If you do not, leave it: your name set in the theme's typeface looks better than a logo made in a hurry.
- Save, then open View site. Your header and footer are already yours.
The phone number and the address are not decoration: they feed the contact section, the footer, and the structured data search engines read.
2. Choose a theme
Pick one that fits your trade rather than your taste of the day: a craftsman does not need the same page as a consultancy. You can change your mind next month without redoing anything.
3. Write the three things a visitor looks for
- Home banner — one sentence saying what you do, in the words your clients use.
- Services — two to five, no more, with a real description each.
- Contact — check your email address and phone number in Site identity; the contact form is already on your site and its messages arrive in the console.
4. Publish
Your site is already live on
yourname.names.legal — there is no publish button to press.
That is deliberate: a site that is live from the first minute is a site you
correct in public, in small steps, instead of postponing a big launch.
Do not try to fill everything on day one. A home page, three services and a working contact form beat a complete site that is still a draft in six weeks.
